Her Sunshine, Her Legacy
A Brief Moment, A Lifelong Mission
On the 14th of February 2020, a tragic swimming pool accident claimed the life of Darcey Elizabeth Sunshine Doig, just two months before her 4th birthday. A keen and competent little swimmer, a brief moment of distraction among children was all it took for lives to irreversibly change.
In the wake of such profound loss, Darcey’s devastated parents knew that her middle name must become her legacy. They envisioned a future where no other family would have to suffer the same devastating fate. In November 2020, The Darcey Sunshine Foundation was officially registered, turning a story of tragedy into a mission of hope.
January 2021 marked a milestone as our first “Sunshine Kids” entered the pool with Jo Jo Swimming Academy in Somerset West. Since then, each year has seen new swim schools join our cause, helping us reach more children in vulnerable communities with life-saving education. We exist to dismantle the financial and cultural barriers that keep children away from water safety, ensuring that Darcey’s sunshine continues to protect others for many years to come.
